NINTENDO64 Overview
NINTENDO64

The NINTENDO64 is a home video game console released by Nintendo in June 1996. The abbreviated name is "n64".

It was released as the successor to the SNES and was able to support full-fledged 3D games. As a result, many games using 3D were released.

Although there were some excellent titles that took advantage of its performance, it failed to match the sales volume and number of titles of its competitor, PlayStation.

More than 20 years have passed since its initial development and most games can be run. It can be played comfortably on a integrated graphics.

Most NINTENDO64 emulators use the plug-in method. Plug-ins are programs prepared for each function, such as video, audio, and input, and by replacing these programs, additional functions can be added without changing the emulator itself.

The plug-ins are set up from the beginning, so you can play right away without having to set anything up.

However, it is more reproducible if the plug-ins are changed.

Several plug-ins are bundled from the beginning, and you can choose the one you like best.

A fork called Mupen64Plus has been developed, but it is recommended to use the M64Py front end because it is command line.

A fork called Mupen64++ has also been developed. This version has a GUI from the beginning.

Reproducibility is top class. All necessary plug-ins are included from the beginning, especially video plug-ins that allow detailed settings such as resolution, filters, etc.

A support request screen will appear for 30 seconds upon startup. If you wait 30 seconds without support, you can use the software without any functional limitations. The support fee is $5.

There is also an improved version called Project64K that supports netplay.

The settings are easy to understand because it is not a plug-in system. It is also equipped with an netplay function.

It is the only emulator that is still being updated as of 2023.
